I have found that when I worked amongst ex-offenders, drugs and alcohol were ( and still are ) the two biggest factors in offending. In fact, I would go so far as to suggest that alcohol is the biggest drug of all. So many families have been torn apart through drink. I believe that drugs in any form, if controlled by government, would not pose such a problem. Ok, so that may be controversial, so any comments are most welcome.
What do you think ?
Thanks.

| I agree, somewhat!! My brother, Cousin and boyfriend are all in prison and all three have had a problem with either drugs and alcohol. Certain alcohol(i.e. spirits) are too widely available and we could put in place more regulations to safe guard those that abuse alcohol. On the other hand I'm sure around 85% of us that do drink alcohol, do so safely and new regulations will affect us to when we don't have the addiction. Can't win really. Drugs on the other hand need to be controlled completely by the government. At the moment we have a ban on all drugs, yet drug addiction is on the rise so the complete ban is not working. I agree that if controlled by the government there will be a huge downfall in the numbers of those addicted. Which in return will reduce crime. People will no longer need to commit crime to pay for drugs. Drug dealers will be forced out of business(you don't see dealers on the corner selling beer). Prisons will become less crowed as a result of less crimes. But how do we get the government to see this? |

Hi all!
You touched on a good point Andypandy.
I am inclined to agree, But when you say controlled, on
what level would this be? Are we talking over the counter and prescribed or lowering class levels and removing bans? _________________ We all deserve a second chance |

I think the government will do this when they realise how much revenue thay can rake in, as with alcohol/tobacco the financial gains are huge. Plus they need to look at attitudes to drugs in the same way that some european countries do. _________________ Andypandy |

I would suggest over the counter or prescribed even, either way it puts the barons out of business. As long as the price is ok, crime levels should be reduced.. _________________ Andypandy |

I totally agree with that.
As long as it gets drug dealers of our streets and
addicts feel as though they no longer need to commit crimes
to support their habits we are all to gain.
It phases me why the British government have not already
realized this and why its not already in place. _________________ We all deserve a second chance |

Well, call me cynical or naive, but I think a lot of people in 'high places' have a lot of fingers in pies so to speak....
Money talks and b******t walks, as they say..
But there again, I could be wrong.. _________________ Andypandy |

Lets face it, when someone is elected as an MP their first instinct is to get their snout is as many troughs as possible, as recent news reports have shown. If they had a mind to, they could take out most of the poppy fields within 48 hours....but it will never happen... _________________ Andypandy |

Yes Sarah so very true but whats is stopping them.
Surely they don't like all this crime and spending all
taxes on prisons when we could potentially half prison
inmates. Something is stopping them but I have no idea what. _________________ We all deserve a second chance |
